7th Jelgavas Roni Cup – the 1st stage of IWSA World Cup was held on November 7th, 2015 in beautiful city Jelgava. The championship was an interesting event in Jelgava’s anniversary celebration and “Jelgavas Roņi” club’s 25th anniversary. As it was planned, the venue for the championship was the area between the bridges “Driksas” and “Mītavas” right in the city center, near the teahouse “Silva” and promenade on the opposite.
The event successfully occured according to the plan. On November 6th guests had city tour excursion by bus in Jelgava, which ended in the Holy Trinity Church Tower of Jelgava, where, according to the program, took place the official opening ceremony of Jelgavas Roni Cup 2015, official reception of international delegates, press conference and presentation about “Jelgavas Roņi” club and its annual Cup. On November 7th the registration and accreditation was opened. Each participant received a commemorative medal, certificate for participation and swimmers pass. Further there were 4 kinds of swims with time control (relay freestyle swim 4х25m, breaststroke 25m, freestyle 50m, endurance freestyle swim 450m), as well as non-timing 25 and 50m swims. On November 8th there was common swim in Driksa river. The championship was successfull and was held on very high emotional level.
230 winter swimmers from 17 countries (Latvia, Estonia, Russia, Great Britain, Finland, Ireland, Scotland, Poland, Denmark, Germany, Belarus, Czech Republic, Sweden, Belgium, Israel, USA and Brasil) took part in Jelgavas Roni Cup 2015. On the whole there were 312 individual starts (in distances – 25m breaststroke and 50m freestyle). 450m open water endurance freestyle swim started near the “Mītavas” bridge moving to the Jelgava’s swimming pool, continuing paralel the boulevard promenade of Janis Chakste till the “Driksas” bridge and finishing at the venue of chapmionship. 18 women and 32 men participated in this swim.
23 teams fought for “Jelgavas Roni Cup 2015” in 2 groups of relay team swim (S1 – less than 200 years (the sum of ages of participants) and S2 – more than 200 years in sum). The best result of the group S1 was shown by Russian team of Novosibirsk “AquaSib”, and for the S2 group – “Victoria” Russia, Petrozavodsk. The teams got “Jelgavas Roni Cup 2015”.
Considering all points for swims the “Nations Cup” won team Latvia, handing to the club “Jelgavas Roņi”, which earned the most points in all the heats.
