“Jelgavas Roņi” Winter Swimming and Hardening Club began its activity in 1990 and holds the status of a public organization. Official status of the club – Public Organization “Jelgavas Roņi” was received in 2006.

The goal is to popularize and develop winter swimming and tempering, as an active and healthy sport style, as well as to promote this for youth and increase interest in sports and healthy lifestyles.

The main event related to the organization is the Jelgavas Roni Cup, an annual international winter swimming event, which is usually held in the beginning of November.

From January to December, the club organizes the following events:

June 

“Ligo Marathon”

A 4 kilometre open water swimming marathon on Lielupe River, starting from Yacht Club Jelgava and swimming until the end of Pils Island (water temperature from +16 to +20 °C).

September

“Autumn Marathon”

A 4 kilometre open water swimming marathon on Lielupe River, starting from Yacht Club Jelgava and swimming until the end of Pils Island (water temperature from +10 to +15 °C).

November

“Jelgavas Roni Cup”

An annual international winter swimming event based in Jelgava, Latvia (water temperature from +2 to +5 °C).

January

“Kreschenye”

Every year on January 19 our club “Jelgavas Roņi” together with the Orthodox Church of Jelgava organizes dipping in the ice-hole (water temperature from -0 to +2 °C).

In cooperation with Jelgavas Sporta Servisa Centrs plans to continue the development of various competitions and events in Jelgava.

Our usual swimming location for the period of when the water is cold (September 1 to April 30):

Yacht Club Jelgava, swimming every Saturday at 12:00.

Malzeme Sports Complex, swimming every Sunday at 12:00.
