For the eleventh time in Lielupe, the traditional “Līgo” swimming took place, in which those interested challenged themselves in 4 kilometers of open water. 40 swimmers competed in the individual SOLO-4km distance, two of which did not finish. In turn, another 17 swimmers started in the relay competition and 6 swimmers started in the relay separately as the team “52nd Battalion of the National Guard”.

In the women’s group a new record – Agnese Patrīcija Ozola (1: 00,14), a master of swimming from the Riga Triathlon club, the second place was taken by Renāte Artamonova (1: 01,31), a student of Jelgava Specialized Swimming School, and the third – Beāte Bula from Dobele Triathlon Sports Club “Aquatics” (1: 01,37).

For the first time in the men’s competition, the winner reached the finish line in less than an hour, and it was a swimmer from Babīte club Ironman.lv Igors Gusanovičs (0:58, 53), who had both a gold medal and a special Midsummer cheese roll in his neck, the second place was taken by Mihails Sudakovs (1: 02,40) from the club “Ķekavas Kambīze”, the third – by Artūrs Hofmanis (1: 04,29) from the club “Hofmann Triathlon Team” from Jūrmala. Results in the relay, 17 swimmers swam 4 kilometers in open water for 1 hour 44 minutes and 56 seconds, but “National Guard 52nd Battalion” for 1 hour 39 minutes and 47 seconds.

The event was organized by the winter swimming club “Jelgavas Roņi” in cooperation with “Jelgava Yacht Club” and the Sports Service Center. In the future, we intend to make swimming more popular and accessible by offering shorter distances to swimmers who are less confident in their power in the open water.
